A setting so beautiful that you can hear the story emptiness blowing through it
Pearl Abyss had an impossible mission: take the DNA of the MMO Black Desert Online and transplant it into a cohesive narrative single-player RPG. The result was Crimson Desert, a title that clearly looked in the mirror a little too long, saw Geralt, Arthur Morgan, and Link winking at it, and decided it could beat all three of them at the same time. The Witcher 3 for the quests, Red Dead 2 for the rides, Tears of the Kingdom for the puzzles, all mixed with Elden Ring for the boss fights. And somewhere in the middle of this ambitious mess, a story that’s supposed to hold it all together. Supposed to.
The continent of Pywel is an authentic slap in the face. Not just beautiful — alive. The fauna and flora operate on autonomous cycles, the dynamic weather transforms the same areas into radically different settings depending on the time, and the display distances regularly make you want to put down the controller to contemplate the panorama from a summit. To find something equivalent, you have to go back to Red Dead 2 for the narrative density of the world, and again: Pywel surpasses it in pure verticality and the variety of biomes. But it’s not just a setting: it’s an ecosystem in which we really settle. We manage trading caravans whose prices fluctuate according to supply and demand, we develop a base camp, we plan trade routes as if we had an MBA in dark fantasy. The kind of secondary loop that you first think will be boring, and which ends up occupying your thoughts between two sessions.
Except that this systemic richness coexists with a narrative that resembles a botched production file at the last moment. Kliff, the main protagonist – a Viking mercenary who, a priori, is supposed to dazzle us with his charisma (at least that must surely have been the basic idea) – is killed in the first moments, then resurrected by a mysterious entity, almost by chance. She herself doesn’t seem to really know why, it seemed like she wanted to pee. Kliff then shares the poster with Damiane and Oongka, two playable characters whose integration into the story borders on a screenwriter’s bug: Damiane disappears for entire chapters before reappearing as Greymane (the clan to which Kliffounet belongs) and a priori everyone is ok with that, without ceremony or logic. And to top it off, the trio remains silent as a carp during the dialogues – the NPCs speak to Kliff, Kliff stares at the horizon in silence, and the immersion disintegrates live. It’s a kit story, as if each chapter had been written by a different team without a common brief – which, given the studio’s MMO heritage, is not an absurd hypothesis.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
